How big should a battery storage area be?

Outdoor storage areas for lithium-ion or lithium metal batteries, including storage beneath weather protection in accordance with Section 414.6.1 of the International Building Code, shall not exceed 900 square feet (83.6 m 2). The height of battery storage in such areas shall not exceed 10 feet (3048 mm).

What is an allowable area in a building?

Allowable area- If an outdoor area is determined to be part of the building area, it must then be considered in the code analysis and be included in the building’s “allowable area” calculations.

What is considered an occupiable space?

Any area that is open to sky. Also, a normal roof overhang of 1-2′ would not be considered an occupiable space and not subject to be considered part of the building area.

How many battery storage areas should be separated from each other?

Multiple battery storage areas shall be separated from each other by not less than 10 feet (3048 mm) of open space. The 2024 International Codes® (I-Codes®) have undergone substantial formatting changes as part of the digital transformation strategy of the International Code Council® (ICC®) to improve the user experience.
