How does South Korea manage energy consumption in ports?

South Korea has virtually no policies related to energy consumption management in ports, and though it is promoting policies to estimate and reduce carbon emissions, there are no measures to limit electric energy consumption in ports, which is expected to continuously grow in the future.

What are the major container ports in South Korea?

Major container ports in South Korea (e.g., the Ports of Busan, Gwangyang, and Incheon) support the import and export economy. Newly supplied terminals will be planned to implement an automated operation system, and mandates the installation of AMP according to the Special Act on the Improvement of Air Quality in Port Areas.

Is North Korea expanding its oil & lubricant storage area?

Recent commercial satellite imagery of the Nampho Port, one of North Korea’s largest commercial ports, shows that the petroleum, oil, and lubricant (POL) storage area is being expanded again. Three new, larger storage tanks are currently under construction, which, when complete, will mean five new tanks will be added this year.

Does Busan New Port have a stable electric power supply?

In order to address this gap, this study forecasts future electric power consumption in Busan New Port (South Korea's largest container port) and, comparing this with the current standard electric power supply capacity, investigated the feasibility of maintaining a stable electric power supply in the future.
