What are the requirements for modern substation design?

What are the different types of substations?

Substations can be generally divided into three major types (according to voltage levels): Transmission substations integrate transmission lines into a network with multiple parallel interconnections, so that power can flow freely over long distances from any generator to any consumer. Where should a Generator Substation be located?

A generator substation will obviously be located near or adjacent to the actual generator, although there may be situations where a site is chosen so that the substation is located away from sources of pollution such as dust or sea spray that might be adjacent to a power station and detrimental to future substation performance.
