Technical FAQs 4

When was FDMA first used?

Adoption of FDMA began in the 1980s, and it was used to carry cellphone and car phone calls under the analog 1st generation mobile communication system (1G). Figure 4-2 shows a conceptual diagram of the use of FDMA for satellite communication.

What is frequency division multiple access (FDMA)?

Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) is a technique in which signals from multiple users are stacked up in frequency, allowing each user to be assigned a specific frequency slot for communication within a shared communications resource. You might find these chapters and articles relevant to this topic.

What is FDMA & TDMA?

Use a unique frequency: FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access). Use a unique time slot: TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access). Use a unique code: CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access). 6. If the resource (frequency, time, code) is allocated in advance, it is called pre-assigned or fixed-assignment multiple access (FAMA).

What are FDMA frequency bands?

Stations. These frequency bands are assigned to different users. FDMA channel bandwidths are relatively narrow (e.g., 30 kHz, 200 kHz), so several User signals may be present in, say, a satellite transponder’s channel, whose bandwidth is large (36, 54 or 72 MHz).
