What is containerized energy storage?

ABB’s containerized energy storage solution is a complete, self-contained battery solution for a large-scale marine energy storage. The batteries and all control, interface, and auxiliary equipment are delivered in a single shipping container for simple installation on board any vessel. How does containerized energy storage work?

Is shore power mandatory for containerships?

Shore power for containerships is mandatory from 2030 onwards as per FuelEU. The creation of shore power infrastructure remains difficult and takes a long time however. Mobile shore power solutions, with- or without a battery will ensure port authorities compliance to regulations.

What is shore power & how does it work?

Shore power (SP) is an effective way to cut carbon emissions at ports by replacing fuel oil for docked ships. The adoption of SP by ships hinges on the onboard transformer setup cost and the cost saving from SP utilization in comparison with fuel oil.

How does a maritime energy storage system work?

The maritime energy storage system stores energy when demand is low, and delivers it back when demand increases, enhancing the performance of the vessel’s power plant. The flow of energy is controlled by ABB’s dynamic Energy Storage Control System.
