Are supercapacitors a viable alternative to battery energy storage?

Supercapacitors, in particular, show promise as a means to balance the demand for power and the fluctuations in charging within solar energy systems. Supercapacitors have been introduced as replacements for battery energy storage in PV systems to overcome the limitations associated with batteries [79, , , , , ].

Why are supercapacitors used in solar energy systems?

These devices provide substantial power to overcome the initial resistance during the startup of solar pumps and ensure reliable power output when operating with grid-connected photovoltaic inverters.
