Can solar refrigeration reduce F&V loss?

Solar refrigeration systems (SRS) offer a crucial solution for reducing fruit and vegetable (F&V) loss and addressing energy and environmental challenges. SRS has the potential to decentralize cold storage operations for F&V preservation, significantly reducing the carbon footprint.

Can a solar refrigeration system be used for F&V preservation?

Conceptual design of different solar refrigeration and CTESS for F&V preservation. Practical implementation of different SRS for F&V storage was presented. A comparison between different solar refrigeration systems was highlighted. Integrating CTESS with solar refrigeration system shall reduce significant savings.

A concept of a combined solar thermal and PV-powered cold storage system was proposed in the study of Basu and Ganguly for potato storage, as shown in Fig. 4. Cold storage condition was maintained using water-lithium absorption refrigeration. This system was unique due to its hybrid solar energy utilization from solar collectors and PV panels.
