How are PV modules rated?

The ratings of a PV module are done in Standard Testing Conditions (STCs) i.e. at 1 kW/m 2 and at 25°C. In reality, however, when they are operating in the field i.e. on the rooftop or in the ground, the temperature is usually higher and the insolation is usually somewhat lower than the STCs.

Do solar PV panels need a thermal model?

Looking at this significant effect of the cell temperature on the performance of the cell, a thermal model is required to make a reasonably accurate estimation of the PV cell temperature for the given environmental and operating conditions. Several researchers have carried out studies on the thermal modeling of solar PV panels.
