Is there a limit to the amount of solar energy?

In theory, there is no limit to the amount of energy, and often the specific investment costs decrease with an increase in the energy/power ratio, as the energy storage medium usually has comparatively low costs. A model 'peaker' plant in China has 100 MWe solar PV with a 100 MW/500 MWh VRFB.

How can solar storage be optimally sized?

The key to optimally sizing the storage system probabilistically is understanding the tradeoff between marginal cost of additional solar or storage and the penalty for being unavailable to meet a peak in a rare situation.

Since a photovoltaic system ‘s power output varies throughout any given day, the battery storage system can provide a relatively constant power source, even when the photovoltaic system is disconnected for repair and maintenance or producing minimal power in periods of reduced sunlight.
