Can solar energy be converted into electricity?

In practical terms, solar energy can be converted into electricity or heat for various applications. The most common method of harnessing this energy is through solar panels, which capture sunlight and convert it into usable electrical power through photovoltaic processes.

When the light strikes the surface of the semiconductor material, a reaction takes place, which converts the light energy into electrical energy. But since solar panels aren’t 100% efficient, some of this light energy becomes heat.
