What are the safety precautions for storage batteries?

The general safety precautions for handling and storing alkaline batteries are the same as for lead-acid batteries with the following exceptions: The electrolyte in these batteries is alkaline but is similarly corrosive. This should be cleaned off with diluted ammonia water or soda solution, and affected areas then dried.

Where should batteries be stored in a climate-controlled environment?

Even with an ideal climate-controlled environment, the specific physical placement of your batteries is a key safety consideration. “Physical location” means the exact spot and manner in which the batteries are stored — whether on a particular shelf, inside a box, or in a dedicated storage cabinet.

What temperature should batteries be stored?

Ideally, keep batteries around normal room temperature – roughly 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F) is a commonly recommended range for long-term storage. In practice, store batteries in a climate-controlled indoor space rather than places like attics or garages that experience extreme temperatures.

What are the requirements for battery storage?

Community safety – a secure boundary, usually a 4-metre high security fence, together with CCTV coverage is often required. Ecology – often battery storage facilities are located on green field sites, ecological mitigation measures may be required.
